Roy Myers comes back
July 6, 2001 (Official Press Release)

The MetroStars announced today that they have re-acquired Costa Rican midfielder Roy Myers via a discovery option available to the team. He rejoins the MetroStars from club Saprissa in his native Costa Rica.

"Our offense has not been performing up to the standards we expected," said MetroStars General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. "Roy will help boost our attack, while we continue our diligent search for another player to replace Clint Mathis this season."

Myers, who is fluent in English, will be rejoining the MetroStars for the third time in his career. He was originally allocated to the MetroStars on February 24, 1999. He played in seven games and recorded one assist before being traded to the Los Angeles on June 1, where he helped lead the Galaxy to the 1999 MLS Cup final.

He returned a second time in a trade for Brian Kelly on May 19, 2000, totaling 17 games with one goal and six assists as the MetroStars made an impressive run through the 2000 MLS playoffs. He was waived prior to the 2001 MLS Superdraft on February 4.

The Costa Rican International holds MLS numbers of five goals and 14 assists in 51 career games. Myers rejoined the team late Thursday night in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
